salutations!

i’m emily lyn bilbrey, wife of david lee bilbrey (media technician, musical savant,  equal parts sweetheart and badass) and mother to poppy madeline reese bilbrey (a.k.a. “pooks”, “biscuit”, “goo”, “miss magoo”, “mopsey”, “milkface”, “nunu”, or “mini-david”, born 4.11.2009. loves cuddling, parks, car naps and yo gabba gabba.)

i became a mother three weeks before my 25th birthday. i love raising my goofball daughter, running my etsy shop, tweeting and watching tv on dvd.

i have a massive penchant for vintage dresses and the perfect smokey eye.

i work from home.  i attachment parent.  dry shampoo is my very best friend.

i have a bunch of tattoos and i swear too much. i’m the youngest of six kids, but you’d never know it…

if you believe that, i’ve got some encyclopedias and a two-thousand-dollar vacuum to sell you.

my husband is half-korean and i’m scandinavian. our poppy girl got bright blue, almond-shaped eyes, golden brown hair and a smile that will rock your socks off. she’ll kick your ass with cute any day, any time

because of the whole seriously cute kiddo thing, i take exorbitant amounts of photos. i shoot on a canon rebel xs with a 50mm lens. i’m not a photog, but i sure do enjoy pretending that i am!

i always despised school but i love learning. until staying at home to raise my kiddo, i had been working since age 15, and i even owned a vintage/trade store for 2.5 years in my early twenties. but then i sold it, paid off some car repairs, took a massively indulgent trip to maui with my husband, purchased roughly 1/3rd of urban outfitters’ spring inventory, and promptly got myself knocked up.

my labor SUCKED. 30 hours total, with 3 inductions, 2 hours of pushing and the least supportive midwife imaginable. i believe i have minor ptsd from the experience, as i scramble to change the channel any time a woman is laboring on tv, after which i spend several minutes hugging my knees while rocking in a corner and eating my own hair.

i love books but i rarely find the time to read these days. my favorite book ever is still “the catcher in the rye”, but “kafka on the shore” by haruki murakami and “everything is illuminated” by jonathan safran foer are close contenders.

my daughter makes me laugh every single day. if you met her, you’d understand. poppy will legitimately blow your mind with all her awesome. this is a fact.

i love organic food, but i cannot give up the french vanilla coffee mate i douse my joe with every morning. i know. CLASSY.

after many years as a barista, i’m picky as hell about the service i receive at cafes.  i will send crappy, poorly made drink straight back for a replacement. but i’m also a great tipper.

i loathe wasting money. i scrutinize receipts and i have been known to request a refund or at least store credit for even the tiniest retail blunders (lipgloss was too sticky, baby shoes fell apart after 2 wears.)

i agonized more over the decision to wean my baby at eight months than i did over choosing a wedding dress.

my biggest pet peeves are: people standing unnecessarily close to me when in public, bad drivers, homophobia, aggressive sales people, weak coffee, commercials, and being repeatedly interrupted.

i’m rarely bored. my happy place is a tidy house, a sleeping toddler, and no immediate obligations. throw in some tv on dvd and a rum and coke and i’ll think i’ve died and gone to heaven.

my husband plays a ridiculous number of instruments, and really well too. i think it’s the whole asian thing.

he is also the sweetest man imaginable, and can change a flat tire and a dirty diaper with a determined efficiency i find unbelievably charming.

i have a happy life. i love sharing my stories and photos. i hope you’ll enjoy it here.

and please for the love of god, don’t be shy about saying “hello”! i adore making new friends on the internets and i want to see stories and photos of your cute baby too!

welcome to the last train to pooksville.

cheers!

my birthday! hello, 27!
